Delicious Homemade Pizza

When I was working as a hostel manager in Akaroa my friends who where living in Christchurch decided to come and keep me company for the weekend… When they arrived I asked them what they wanted to eat and they where bagging me to make my homemade pizza’s.
I love making pizza’s from scratch! And when they requested pizza’s I just ran into the kitchen and start prepairing a big batch of pizza dough 🙂
I recon pizza is that one dish that has a special place in many peoples hearts. As a kid growing up I remember that a pizza night would defiantly be the highlight of the week 🙂


My first job when i was about 16 years old… was in this little pizzeria in the neighbourhood I grew up. I was always fascinated how the chefs would spin the dough around and throwing it in the air! An the pizza’s tasted SO good!!
Now every time I go to a REALL pizzeria I just get a happy feeling! You know when they bake the pizza’s in a stone-oven and serve the pizza on a big wooden board 🙂 Doesn’t that make you just jump in the air of joy?!

In this recipe I will show you how to make your own mouthwatering home made pizza’s with your own made pizza dough!

What do you need:

This recipe will make 2 medium size pizza’s

For the dough:

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp salt

For the topping:

  • 4 tbsp passata (tomato sauce)
  • 2 handfuls of grated cheese

And what ever meat, vegetables, fruit or fish you like to top it with!

Step1. Add honey and yeast to the warm water, stir and set aside for 5min until it gets frosty on top.

Step 2. Add the yeast mixture into the flour and with the back of a wooden spoon mix it all together.

Step3. When the flour comes together and forms a dough transfer the dough to a clean floured surface. Start kneading the dough for a good 10mins till dough becomes silky smooth and elastic. Set in a lightly oiled bowl wrapped in cling-foil and set aside for at least an hour and doubled in size.



Step 4. When the dough had it’s first resting period and had doubled in size you can give it a punch right in the middle. Scrape dough out of the bowl and give it another knead for 2-3min.

Step 5. Dived the dough in 2 and form them in a ball. Again set aside for 20-30min before rolling them out.

Step6. Now the dough had it’s second resting period its time to roll it out on a floured surface. I just rolled them out in a square.

Step 7. Spread 2 tbsp of passata on the dough and keep some dough homemade pizzaempty on the ends for the yummy crust.

Step 8. Sprinkle a handful of cheese over the pizza and top the pizza with your choice of toppings. (We’ve topped our pizza’s 50% with salami, mushrooms, onion, green capsicum and 50% with roast pumpkin, feta and zucchini)

Step 9. Bake pizza’s in a pre-heated oven for about 30min on 220c or until crust and bottom of pizza is nice and golden.

There you have it! A nice home made pizza you can make and enjoy with the next party! 😉
